Work is one of my greatest joys, but these days I have no place to rest, no escape, even at home. Brawler wins all of his bouts. It's better for him than losing, but for me, not by much. He gets very cocky and then.... Well, I've told him, he should keep his fights in the ring. . .
Robbie came to both shows again tonight -- again without Sparrow. He perched in the front row -- and sent the most wonderful seed pods backstage. I asked him not to do it again, though. Between Sparrow and Brawler, I hate to think of the fuss if they find out. And it was all I could do to get the gossips not to write about it.
Brawler came by Le Club tonight. I was afraid that he'd heard about Robbie, luckily Robbie was late and had to perch in the back. Anyway, Brawler must have been eating fermented seed, because after the "Birdies of Broadway" number, he stomped onto the stage in the middle of the show and demanded a dance from me! The audience thought it was a new part of the act -- and they loved it. We're the "Golden Couple," after all. But it was an Apache he wanted and it more than just ruffled my feathers. This is it. Let the gossips say what they will, the gold in this affair has tarnished and I want out. Tonight I sleep in my dressing room and tomorrow, while he's at the ring, I'm moving out. I'm glad I have you with me, DD. You're my best friend in town.
Editor's note: Some pages were missing from the diary here and it is conjectured that La Pulcina Piccola herself removed the entries related to the stormy end of her affair with the Barnyard Brawler.
This terrible note was delivered to Le Club today, along with empty seed cases!! I wanted to go to the police when I got the note, but Robbie says it’s nothing to worry about. We're leaving town in two days. I can hardly wait.
A scrawled note in another claw, presumed to be that of Sparrow:
"You'll stay away from Cock Robin if you know what's good for you!"
Robbie told me Sparrow broke up with him just before she left town to tour with her big show, "Flights of Fancy, Flights of Passion." He's been a great friend through all of the fuss with Brawler. I don't generally go for interspecies relationships but... Well, I hope he comes to the show again tonight.
